  • Westchester Parks Foundation engages the public to advocate for and invest in the preservation, conservation, use, and enjoyment of the 18,000 acres of parks, trails, and open spaces within the Westchester County Parks system. Since 2006, Westchester Parks Foundation has operated the Camp Morty sleep-away camp, a quality outdoor residential camp experience for children residing in underserved communities in Westchester County. The Camp Nurse serves as the on-site health director and is responsible for the care of ill or injured campers and staff and related administrative duties.

    Required Background and Qualifications
    ● A medical professional (physician*, nurse practitioner*, physician assistant*, registered nurse*, licensed practical nurse*, emergency medical technician or other person acceptable to the permit-issuing official)
    ● Current certification in American Red Cross Responding to Emergencies, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and AED, or acceptable equivalents are required. The Health Director must have experience in dealing with children and medical emergencies.

    RESPONSIBILITIES
    Under the direct supervision of the Camp Director & Associate Director, the Health Director must:
    ● Plan, develop, implement and evaluate the on-site program and camp safety program for both staff and camp participants.
    ● Communicate with the Westchester County Health Department as required by code.
    ● Review and ensure compliance of NY State Health Code for Summer Camps as it pertains tothe Health Office.
    ● Advise campers and staff on procedures that promote health and safety while they reside at that camp. This includes leading a session on “Staying Healthy at Camp” for staff members during staff orientation and participating in camper orientation by explaining camp health procedures and informing the campers about ways to stay healthy while at camp.
    ○ Lists will be provided to both the camp administrative team and staff members working directly with the affected campers. This is to be completed prior to the campers arrival to camp and will be updated as necessary throughout the session.
    ● Parents/Guardians will be made aware of any limitations that will be placed on their children while at camp due to their condition.
    ● Organize and distribute a camper medication schedule for campers attending each session prior to the campers arrival.
    ● Manage all incoming and outgoing medication (both prescription and non-prescription) for campers and staff living in camper’s quarters.
    ● Maintain the camp’s “Health Log,” a system for record keeping of all illnesses and injuries at camp location.
    ● Follow up on all incident/accident reports by calling parents/guardians and document appropriate in the camp's health log.
    ● Assess campers and staff who are ill or injured and determine if further medical attention is needed.

    This is a sleepaway camp, and the position requires on-site boarding for the duration of the summer.

    DATES May 1, 2024 - Mid August, 2024

    COMPENSATION
    $20,000-$22,000 depending on experience

The Nursing Assistant assists the on-site Camp Nurse, and is responsible for assisting the Camp Nurse in all aspects of providing health and safety for all camp participants.

    Required Background and Qualifications
    ● Preferred EMT or paramedic
    ● Nursing students pursuing their degree will be strongly considered.
    ● Must have CPR/First Aid certification up to date.

    Responsibilities
    Under the direct supervision of the Camp Nurse and Camp Director, the Nursing Assistant:
    ● is responsible for maintaining accurate medical records of campers, contacting medical professionals when necessary, and supporting the Camp Nurse with basic first-aid.
    ● Review all camper applications, contact guardians before session begins to clarify health needs, and prepare a list of all campers who may have the need for special medical consideration and attention that might limit participation, and what to do in case of emergencies.
    ● Nursing Assistant, with Camp Nurse, notifies Parents/Guardians of any limitations that will be placed on their children while at camp due to their condition.
    ● Assist in the organization and distribution of camper medication schedule for campers attending each session prior to the campers arrival.
    ● Assist in daily camp health and safety related operations
    ● Prepare and replenish first aid kits and supplies for campers and staff.
    ● Distribute kits to appropriate parties prior to camper’s arrival each Sunday.
    ○ First Aid kits should be distributed to: each yurt, waterfront, ropes course and other designated locations as assigned. Replenish as needed during each session.
    ● Stock and replenish hygiene products for campers in staff laundry quarters.
    ● Submit supply lists to the Director in a timely fashion in order to keep supplies stocked throughout the summer.
    ● All other duties as assigned

  • Westchester Parks Foundation is seeking a motivated professional to assist the camper recruitment team at Camp Morty. We are seeking a dynamic office assistant who will be responsible for handling a majority of the general clerical tasks in our office. This includes but is not limited to; handling incoming phone calls and other communications, greeting visitors, managing files, updating paperwork and other documents, conducting phone outreach to families, and performing other general office duties and errands.

    The Camp Office Assistant will work on-site in North Salem, NY from mid-June through mid-August as part of the Camper Recruitment team.

    RESPONSIBILITIES
    ● Camper Registration
    o Assist camper recruitment team in all matters including, but not limited to, camper registration, data entry, and reception duties.
    o Process camper paperwork with the utmost professionalism and sensitivity.
    o Call families to assist them with the completion of paperwork and to ensure they are aware of their registration status.
    o Call families
    o Work with campers’ guardians, doctor’s offices and Department of Social Services to ensure camper applications are complete and children are able to attend camp.
    o Work with campers’ caregivers to help them to prepare their children for camp.
    o Work after hours on select days in order to provide assistance to families whose members work during typical business hours.

    DUTIES
    ● General
    o Manage incoming calls and emails to general accounts, and provide a high level of customer service
    interfacing with camp families and staff from the Department of Social Services.
    o Assist as needed with general office tasks, including printing, sending faxes, organizing files etc. o Creating, maintaining, and entering information into databases.
    o Maintaining office equipment as needed.
    o Updating paperwork, maintaining documents and word processing.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    ● Professional Experience
    o 1-3 years of administrative and customer service experience; o Experience with input and maintenance of database records.
    ● Organizational Skills
    o Excellent verbal/written communication skills;
    o Ability to handle a variety of responsibilities simultaneously and to set priorities in order to complete assignments in an efficient, accurate and timely manner;
    o Comfort in working in a team oriented, consensus driven environment;
    o Proven computer skills: familiarity with Microsoft Office or Google Docs is required.
    ● Personal Qualities
    o Positive, professional and accommodating attitude;
    o Compassion and discretion in dealing with children and families from diverse backgrounds; o Ability to present well and interact with all levels of staff;
    o High level of integrity in dealing with confidential and sensitive information.
    ● Ability to work flexible hours, including evening and weekend requirements.
    ● Bi-lingual (Spanish).
    o Comfort in communicating specific, sometimes technical or legal information, to families who only speak Spanish or very limited English. ● Drivers License preferred

    EMPLOYMENT DATES & COMPENSATION
    ● June 1 - August 18th 2024.
    ● $15-20/hr depending on experience, 37.5 hours per week which will include some weekend and evening hours.
